Bromham Community Hub

Giraffe Engineering provided comprehensive structural and civil design services for the new Bromham Community Hub, a 500-square-metre single-storey facility commissioned to replace the village's former social centre. Engaged from initial scheme design through to practical completion, our team delivered the core engineering strategy for the multi-functional hub building. In addition, we provided essential civil engineering input to support a wider outline site masterplan that safeguards future development, including a new sports pavilion, retail space, and residential units.

The architectural brief demanded highly flexible, open-plan internal environments capable of adapting to diverse user needs. A primary structural challenge was engineering the large, column-free spaces required for the main hall, while safely accommodating the load and span requirements of a heavy movable partition system. By prioritizing structural efficiency and value engineering, Giraffe Engineering developed a streamlined, cost-effective structural solution. This approach allowed us to successfully realize the ambitious spatial requirements while strictly adhering to the project's tight budget constraints and accelerated, funding-driven deadlines.

Agility and proactive coordination were critical to maintaining project momentum. Operating under a Design and Build procurement route, Giraffe Engineering worked collaboratively alongside the architect and the wider design team during the early stages to lock in an efficient scheme. We were subsequently novated to the principal contractor to deliver RIBA Stages 4-6. This seamless continuity ensured our detailed technical design and responsive construction-phase support remained agile, directly assisting the contractor in mitigating site risks and delivering the facility on schedule.

Giraffe Engineering provided us with an excellent service for our £1.5m community hub project. Giraffe were agile and responsive at the critical time when grant imposed time constraints and a funding gap required rapid value engineering of our structural design. The community is delighted with the completed solution.
