Fastned

Giraffe Engineering provides comprehensive structural design services for Fastned’s rapidly expanding network of ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging stations across the UK.

At the heart of these sites are Fastned’s iconic, nature-inspired glulam canopies, which support solar PV panels and provide shelter for drivers. The glulam canopy structure uses advanced structural timber engineering to realise the full strength of the glulam material, cantilevering out from a central column to cover a wide area.

Giraffe Engineering developed a bespoke, flexible design methodology for deploying these striking, modular structures across the UK, taking into account local site conditions including wind and snow loading and local ground conditions. Site conditions vary drastically across the United Kingdom—from sheltered urban environments in London and the Southeast to highly exposed locations in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The design methodology developed by Giraffe Engineering allows the team at Fastned to quickly select the appropriate pre-designed components for use on each site location.

Giraffe Engineering delivers a full, highly responsive suite of structural engineering services to Fastned, including: Advanced 3D Modelling & Analysis, Substructure & Foundation Design, Component & Connection Design, Responsive Site Support.

We’ve been working with Giraffe Engineering for the past couple of years to support the expansion of our UK ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging network, and they’ve been nothing short of amazing. Their highly responsive and practical support has been invaluable to us, and has allowed us to roll out our award winning charging hubs at the pace we need- we couldn’t do it without them
