Rowan Beaton
Engineer
MEng (Hons)
Rowan joined Giraffe Engineering in 2020, following a highly successful summer placement with the team in 2019. He graduated from the University of Bristol with an MEng in Civil Engineering, bringing with him a strong passion for sustainable construction and timber engineering.
Since joining the practice, Rowan has developed extensive experience in domestic scale design, including masonry cavity wall and timber frame construction. He particularly enjoys finding imaginative solutions for small scale extensions, historic conservation, and the creative reuse of existing buildings. He values the opportunity to be involved in every stage of a project, taking designs from the initial concept right through to issuing the final drawings.
Driven by a commitment to minimising the industry's environmental impact, Rowan takes a keen interest in Passivhaus design and engineered timber. He regularly undertakes embodied carbon assessments and scheme design optioneering to ensure his projects are as sustainable and low impact as possible.
When he is not working, Rowan is usually busy training and teaching Taekwondo, or training the office dog, Rauri.
